5 Alternative Ideas for Fathers' Day
06 Jun 2015

FYI, it’s June 21st, so you’ve a bit of time yet to pick something up! And just in case your dad doesn’t want to join you at Body & Soul (which, to be fair, would be a pretty alternative Fathers’ Day gift), we’ve rounded up a few more options.

Dublin Pride Festival

Fathers’ Day also happens to be bam-smack in the middle of this year’s 30 Years of Gay Pride Festival. The recent overwhelming vote in favour of the marriage referendum in Ireland has shown that equal rights is something everyone cares about, across all age groups and classes. So, now that we’ve all worked together to get equality for all, let’s get everybody back out to celebrate together. The website promises to list events for the week, coming soon, but we think it’s safe to say that there’ll be some fun events, so don’t put away those yes badges just yet! (For more details see:

Tickets to a show

If your dad’s a Paul Simon fan, what better gift than tickets to see Ladysmith Black Mambazo live in the National Concert Hall? They’re playing for one night only on July 2nd.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo

If you’re looking for something to attend on the day itself, Sean O’Casey’s The Shadow of a Gunman will be running at The Abbey Theatre between June & August. It promises to be a great show after the success of Director Wayne Jordan’s 2014 production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.

Bill Murray Movies

June is Bill Murray season at the Lighthouse Cinema and we can’t think of a better way to spend time with dad than going to catch a classic like Ghostbusters or Groundhog Day.

Checking out the Art

This kind of thing is perfect if you’re planning to go for a Fathers’ Day lunch too. Grab a bite to eat and then stroll around Merrion Square and check out the art for sale. Or pop into the National Gallery and catch a free Sunday Highlights of the Collection tour. They also currently have a Sean Scully exhibition, which will be there until September.
